THE LAST MUGHAL JAWAHARLAL NEHRU NURTURED PRONOUNCED CONTEMPT FOR SAMSKRITA

When a US historian Will Durant said, “India was the motherland of our race, and Sanskrit the mother of Europe’s languages; she was the mother of our philosophy; mother, through the Arabs, of much of our mathematics; mother, through the Buddha, of the ideals embodied in Christianity; mother, through the village community, of self-government and democracy. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all.”, we just lapped it up and a sense of superiority gushed through our blood vessels down from neurons to toes. If the same statement had been delivered by even  one of Shamkaracharya-s, it would have been lampooned and brushed aside contemptuously. That is probably the most eloquent manifest of our slavish mind-set on a mass scale wherein a 35 crore strong Hindu community flatly rejected to recognise their own mother-tongue that had been in practice for thousands of years. The ‘Brown-Sahib’ phenomenon involving English language elitism successfully obnubilated mass perception so terribly that we could not recognise our own mother-tongue !! We must confess shamelessly, “‘Lord’ TB McCaulay executed most powerful ‘education reform’ in our country for his own country ever known in recorded world history to deny us opportunities to study and own our own glorious past.” By the way, Aryana-Invasion Theory was targeted to convince us, this nation is not ours at all !! Mercifully, there they failed.

When Law Minister Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar proposed an amendment declaring Samskrita as official language of the Union, he was supported by Dr. BV Keskar, Dy. Minister of External Affairs and Naziruddin Ahmad, member of the Constituent Assembly. Out of thirteen other signatories supporting the amendment, eleven were from southern Bharata and out of those eleven, nine were from Madras state alone !! The historic feat was miserably averted as the only obstacle was Nehru himself.

Almost all Universities had Samskrita Departments during Nehruvian era, hundreds graduated in Samskrita from these institutions yet not one of them was an original thinker or critique of Samskrita texts. They used to be encouraged to go abroad for higher studies in Samskrita for some mystical reasons best known to the last Mughal Jawaharlal Nehru alone. Innumerable original manuscripts and texts plundered by British-intruders were available abroad in libraries while Nehru did precious little to recover our lost national treasure, an asset of tremendous prestige and may be, some sense of superiority too. Nehrus pathological contempt for anything Hindu was well established and well  known to all. Even six decades after his demise in 1964, we are still struggling with proceeds and consequences of his despising Samskrita in the form of venomous anti-Samskrita pseudo-intellectuals like Wendy Doniger, Sheldon Pollock, Devdutt Patnaik etc. uninterruptedly spewing venomous literature berating Samskritic traditions. Some of them have been financed by businessmen too opening more avenues for mis-interpretation and maligning of the ancient language now recognised by NASA as best suited for studying Artificial Intelligence and advanced software.

If the last Mughal Nehru had really been a visionary, he would have adopted Samskrita as national language as Constituent Assembly supported the move, ordered its teaching in all schools along with English across the nation, then contours of the nation would have been very different today. Samskrita had been the language of Karmakanda, Darshana, Mathematics, Astronomy, Science, Law, Sahitya etc. for thousands of years. Samskrita words and phrases pervade all dialects and languages and no region or community can lay claim over it. It would have been comfortably established all over the nation and all language disputes would have been buried deep in the ‘holy’ ground of Shantivana !! The historic opportunity was completely destroyed by him unfortunately for the nation to pay a heavy price for decades to come and the sole reason was Nehrus contempt for Samskrita.

CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY IMPOSED ‘UNION OF STATES’ ON AN ANCIENT GLORIOUS NATION OF BHARATA AS AN ADDED FEATURE

Much maligned and lampooned Congress dynast Rahul Gandhi visited London in March 2023 to spew venom against the nation he has been craving to rule continuing the legacy of dynasticism. Not only he exhorted Brit-Goras to come back to India to re-root democracy but also declared the nation as ‘Union Of States’ implying thereby, nothing existed or mattered before Aug. 15, 1947 on the lines of perverted and distorted history taught to children in Pakistani schools. His statements invited an avalanche of hostile and angry comments from all over the nation, disrupted Parliamentary proceedings as he declined to apologise for his offensive and seditious remarks on the soil of former colonial masters. The paradigm of ‘Union Of States’ raised by him requires to be re-visited exhaustively.

Till 1947, Bharatavarsha had been a nation in true sense of the term for thousands of years. Hundreds of small and medium sized Kingdoms dotted the sub-continent often at war among themselves for various reasons with shifting territorial boundaries. On three historic occasions, these boundaries moved around in such a manner that three largest Kingdoms viz. Maurya, Gupta and Maratha came into being covering almost entire nation. Nation had witnessed unprecedented prosperity during their rule and the sense of nationhood was enormously strengthened. Post Partition-1947 after British occupiers were thrown out of the nation, all remaining Kingdoms were united into one political entity, a Constitution was framed for the purpose of smooth governance in all aspects. Existence of ancient nationhood of Bharata was never denied by framers of the Constitution as the innermost solidified and sacrosanct core and ‘Union Of States’ was an added feature as its jacket externally. It explicitly conveyed ancient nation of Bharatavarsha is now re-organised as ‘Union Of India’ with States having no privilege to secede under any circumstance.

Article (1) of the Constitution was debated on Nov. 15 and 17 of 1948 as well as on Sept. 17 and 18 of 1949. As some members of the Constituent Assembly demanded the nation be declared a ‘Federation Of States’ instead of ‘Union Of States’, it was explained by Dr. Ambedkar that ‘Union Of States’ implied, States had absolutely no right to secede from the nation. As some members like Seth Govinda Das, Ram Sahai and Kamalapati Tripathi wanted the name ‘Bharata’ only to be retained in the Constitution as it could be traced back to ancient texts like Veda-s, Upanisad-s and Mahabharata while others ‘India’, an amendment was duly adopted to retain both. Hence the final proclamation as ‘India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States’ was adopted. Anticipating questions from his fellow members, Ambedkar told the Assembly that ‘the use of the word Union is deliberate’. He and his Draft Committee colleagues wanted to signal that even though India was a ‘federation’ this was ‘not the result of an agreement by States to join the federation…’. Therefore, States did not have the right to secede. He added that the Indian ‘Federation is a Union because it is indestructible’. It appears, the Drafting Committee feared that declaring India as a ‘federation’ would allow space for States to secede.

Now reverting to the original issue of a Congress dynast declaring Bharata an ‘India that is Union Of States’ smacks of his malafide intentions hidden behind his pernicious antipathy towards RSS, BJP, brilliant performance of Prime Minister Modi and bleak prospects of his Party coming back to power anytime even in distant future. So was his mother Antonia Maino when she assured electorate of Karnataka to protect and preserve ‘sovereignty’ of the State while campaigning for Assembly elections in May 2023. They are desperate to stage a comeback to power influenced by the sense of entitlement tormenting his family and in this desperation, they are eager to go to any extent including treacherous anti-nationalism too.

Bharata has always been a well-knit Sanatana nation strongly united by Sanatana values while conducting her governance in the outfit of ‘Union Of States’, an additional feature to the ancient Bharatiya nationhood.
