THE LAST MUGHAL JAWAHARLAL NEHRU CONCEIVED DICKIE UNCLE’S PARTING KICK OF PARTITION-POGROM FOR BHARATA

After almost two centuries of British occupation, scores of bloody battles leading to massacre of lakhs, loot of $$45 Trillion worth of assets in today’s terms, British made famines causing starvation deaths in millions on roads, thousands of Hindu women brutalised, hundreds of revolutionaries savagely tortured…freedom in the name of ‘Transfer Of Power’ was finally attained somehow, then the newly installed Prime Minister proposes and appoints last representative of the brutal regime as Governor General i.e. Head of the newly liberated country !!! Has any other nation ever been derogated in such a crude manner, that too immediately after attaining so-called freedom from foreign yoke by her own Prime Minister ?? On the contrary, MA Jinnah did not allow Mountbatten to hang around corridors of power in Pakistan though they were very much in cahoots with him in perpetrating all sorts crimes against Hindu-s and Bharata.

By appointing Mountbatten, popularised as ‘Dickie Uncle’ by his admirers in Congress and back home in Britain, as Governor General of Bharata, Nehru extended a golden opportunity on a platter to same tyrants who had traumatised the country and her denizens for some 200 years and sucked us dry of our wealth, to ruin us more. Nehru’s pathological anti-Hindu chauvinism was always at the core of his every notion, presumption, assumption, disposition, inclination or decision with Mountbatten as his guide and mentor in politics. Owing to the ‘beautiful relationship’ (words of Nehru’s sister Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit) between Nehru and Edwina Mountbatten, it was a child’s play for Gov. General Mountbatten to bring him around to his decisions howsoever illegitimate, atrocious and anti-Bharata. Army Chiefs of both countries were British nationals in those historic moments of reckoning. Were Congress ‘Freedom-fighters’ so naïve as to be unaware of possible calamities and catastrophes that they could have been wrought upon the nation ?? Was that not extreme of callous recklessness ? They expected him to protect interests of Bharata at the expense of Britain who had been notoriously inept in all assignments allocated even by the occupying British regime in Britain and derided as ‘Master Of Disasters’ in his own country !! When Dr. Ambedkar and the Saudi Arabian Maulana Azad directly warned ‘Dickie Uncle’ of inevitable blood-bath if partition was enforced so much in a hurry, he responded so callously, “…I shall see to it that there is no bloodshed or riot. I am a soldier, not a civilian. If there should be slightest agitation, I shall order the Army and the Air Force to act and use tanks and aeroplanes to suppress anybody who wants to create trouble”. But in reality, he did absolutely nothing. Not a single soldier was deployed anywhere on both sides of the border to protect Hindu-s from Muslim marauders in spite of brutalities and savagery that continued for days together. Being directly responsible for genocide of some 30 lakh natives, Mountbatten aptly deserved to be court martialed by Netaji’s INA.

Britain wanted Kashmir as a strategic territory under their command or with pro-west Pakistan due to it’s locational advantage hence, they surrepticiously sowed seeds of separatism / independence in minds of Muslim League and Kashmiris. To realise that sinister objective, Nehru’s offer of the office of Governor General on a platter was an unexpected windfall for him. ‘Dickie Uncle’ derived maximum advantage out of the opportunity, muscled his way as ‘Head Of Defence Committee Of India’ to ensure Army Chiefs on both sides of the border were British nationals reporting to him in addition to the Supreme Commander Auchinleck. That’s how ‘Dickie Uncle’ had a golden opportunity to covertly confabulate with British Army Chief of Pakistani Army, British Chief of Bharatiya Army without roping even a single leader of Congress in confidence and finalised strategies and decisions as Royal British Government wished to have before departing. Had he held those ‘confidential’ strategy sessions even in the middle of Connaught Place under the blue sky, he would have encountered no hurdle at all with an outstanding facilitator like Prime Minister JL Nehru !! It was the last Mughal Nehru who offered ‘Dickie Uncle’ to preside over Defence Committee of the Cabinet (now Cabinet Committee On Security) to resolve all decisions on Kashmir, displacement, war etc. Whatever happened immediately before and after Partition-1947 was in reality, presided over by Viceroy turned Governor General Mountbatten at the behest of last Mughal JL Nehru and Nehru alone as all those official capacities were conferred upon ‘Dickie Uncle’ by Nehru alone as Prime Minister.

The last Mughal Prime Minister Nehru was cavorting around like an unbridled stallion high on testosterone !! Nobody could dare challenge him as he was privileged with protective shadow of MK Gandhi. Governor General ‘Dickie Uncle’ alias Mountbatten also invoked his dubious ‘talent’ during integration of Junagadh and Hyderabad in addition to J&K. He stood there and everywhere to protect Royal British and Royal British interest alone with ‘hell with it’ attitude for Bharata with respect to any decision with the potential to mitigate Royal British interest. It was Congress-favourite Governor General of India ‘Dickie Uncle’ who prevailed upon Nehru to refer the issue of J&K to United Nations. So he was in fact instrumental in internationalising domestic issue of J&K. ‘Dickie Uncle’ also attempted his best to internationalise issues of Junagadh and Hyderabad too but failed only due to effective intervention of the then Union Home Minister Sardar Patel.

So Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten presided over the worst Hindu-holocaust of ‘Independent’ Bharata in the capacity of Governor General when some 30 lakh people perished. Instead of demanding capital punishment by public hanging for him as a measure of token punishment, Vice-President M. Hidayatullah was deputed to shoulder his casket in funeral while Navy Commander Admiral RL Parreira followed it as a mourner. It may be an interesting riddle for some to probe as to why the Admiral was not instructed to toll the bell as a sexton to the funeral !!

FOR THOSE IGNORANT OF INFINITUDE OF SANATANA DHARMA

Entire universe, for that matter entire Maya  in various manifests, is created at the behest of Param Brahmatma  alone and for Him only. If He is omniscient today it is because He has been congregating, collating and compiling mass of experiences received through various manifests of Maya, Jivatma-s and Karma-s perpetrated by Jivatma-s. Every addition in His knowledge, wisdom and consciousness perceived through His consciousness may be termed as ‘Quantum’ of realities or Tattva-s i.e. His-ness. Devolutionary transformation of Tattva-s from the fundamental manifest of Cetana  down to lowest manifest of Prthvi  i.e. physical entity and reverse cosmic travel is an incessantly eternal event. Enlightened one who has accurately perceived the cosmic game-plan, is immediately withdrawn and liberated from the cycle through the manifest of Moksa. Thus we perceive, all cosmic events in the domain of Maya  are concentric, hierarchical and transient.

Suddha Tattva-s, regarded as most fundamental manifests of Cetana, are five in number. SivaTattva  is purest manifest of Cetana, entirely devoid of any contortion from where primal sound Pranava  i.e. soundless sound emanates as the first impulse of quiescence; SaktiTattva  is the state of His eternal bliss; SadasivaTattva  is the faculty of impulsion that inspires Him into action; IsvaraTattva  is His faculty of cognition of infinite knowledge by virtue of which He conceives what next to be created and finally SatvidyaTattva, precise faculty of action itself whereby Param Brahmatma  may manifest Himself in any way, from subtlest to the grossest. Here is the turning point that allows conceptualisation of Advaita  and Dvaita. With the Cetana  oscillating between the two, both doctrines are precisely accurate simultaneously.

Suddhasuddha Tattva-s are seven in number. MayaTattva  is His mystical faculty of creation of entire Maya  through divine impulsions and involutions to encapsulate Param Brahmatma  into individualised Purusa  within five Kosa-s. These disaggregate and transform into innumerable objects within universe when devoid of Cetana; KalaTattva  is the faculty of His divinity being circumscribed into intial stage of limited creations; VidyaTattva  is His faculty of diminishing Himself to the level of worldly knowledge gained and immediate past experiences; RagaTattva  entails His universality being diminished to desiring worldly objects of sense-gratification; KalaTattva  causes diminution of eternity into ephemerality leading to cognition of experiences of past, present and future; NiyatiTattva  is the faculty of undergoing rigours of Karma  and Karmaphala  thereof with liberty to act restricted and finally PurusaTattva, diminished and embodied Param Brahmatma  now known as Jivatma, eligible for transmigration into various embodiments conditioned to perceive every entity as an individual.

Asuddha Tattva-s are 24 in number constituting the largest cluster of grossness in the universe. PradhanTattva, also known as Prakrti, is the devolutionay transformational manifest ranging from lowest in subtlety i.e. Akasa  to the grossest i.e. Prthvi. Concurrently, Cetana  too undergoes devolution by confining itself through five Indriya-s instead of being transformational. Through these devolutions, Cetana  of Atma  undergoes first experience of the gross and activities thereof. PradhanaTattva  is endowed with three Guna-s i.e. Sattva, Raja  and Tama. Cosmic journey begins from the level of Tama  with the assistance of Raja  to the highest level of Sattva. Sattva  and Tama  are diametrically opposite to each other in contents while Raja  is the instrument of action between other two Guna-s. BuddhiTattva  is the first devolutionary transformation of Pradhana  with Sattva  in abundance, Atma  and experiences thereof reflect upon it imparting faculties of visualisation, contemplation, introspection, rationalisation, concluding decisions etc. Next devolutionary transformation emanating from BuddhiTattva  is AhamkaraTattva  by virtue of which a sense of identity is imparted upon Atma  by BuddhiTattva  out of perceptions, emotions and memories. ManasTattva  is the lower order of BuddhiTattva, closer to organs of sense-perceptions and actions. It is first point of interactions with the external world receiving, collecting perception inputs for scrutiny, analysis and formulating conclusions. Five Tattva-s i.e. SrotraTattva (for listening), TvakTattva (for touching), CaksuTattva (for beholding), RasanaTattva (for tasting) and GhranaTattva (for smelling) together constitute Jnanendriya-s i.e. faculties of cognition. SrotraTattva  is vested in ears, TvakTattva  in skin, CaksuTattva  in eyes, RasanaTattva  in tongue and GhranaTattva  in nostrils. All five faculties of perceptions are ultimately vested in Cetana  of Atma  through which variegated perceptions of the external gross world is first received by ManasTattva. Five limbs meant to be means of performing actions i.e. Karmendriya-s happen to be VakTattva  i.e. voice, PaniTattva  i.e. hands, PadaTattva  i.e. feet, PayuTattva  i.e. anus and UpasthaTattva  i.e. procreation organs. Capability to perform these actions is vested again in Cetana  of Atma  operating in the domain of external gross world. Five TanmatraTattva  happen to be SabdaTattva  i.e. sound, SparsaTattva  i.e. palpation, RupaTattva  i.e. contours, RasaTattva  i.e. taste and GandhaTattva  i.e. smell and odour. Faculty to experience these primary sensations is again, vested in Cetana  of Atma. Five Maha Bhuta-s i.e. gross elements in the order of growing grossness are AkasaTattva  i.e. Pranava, VayuTattva  i.e. air, AgniTattva  i.e. fire, JalaTattva  i.e. water and PrthviTattva  i.e. earth.

All five Bhuta-s are characterised by their unique physical and chemical properties. They owe their unique state of existence to their respective degrees of viscosity in scientific terms and subtlety in Adhyatmika  terms. Akasa  possesses subtlety of the highest order hence endowed with the characteristic of infinite expansion and pervasiveness. Vayu  is less subtle than Akasa  hence, lesser pervasiveness while motility and maneuverability confined within atmosphere only. Agni  is lesser in subtlety than Vayu, hence falling within range of perceptibility of gross eyes endowed with contours and colour. Jala  is still lesser in subtlety than Agni  hence imparted with fluidity albeit lesser in pervasiveness. Finally, Prthvi  possesses lowest order of subtlety and highest order of grossness hence, imparted with solidity and immotility. It is ironical and pertinent too, to mention that Periodic Table of elements lists 118 elements based on Atomic Numbers and all those elements are variations of just one Bhuta  i.e. Prthvi  ! All these Bhuta-s possess specific ways to be perceived i.e. Prthvi  through it’s odour, Jala  through taste, Agni  through it’s contours and colour, Vayu  through it’s sound and Akasa  through Spandana  i.e. modulations of Pranava  alone. What is axiomatic here is that all Tattva-s have a very specific function to accomplish impelled by Cetana  of Atma. They are akin to various electrical gadgets with different functions yet functioning only when powered by electricity.

Commencement of cosmic journey through the world is marked by creation of simplest form of Jivatma, a consequence of disruption in equi-poise of three Guna-s by streaks of Ahamkara. After purportedly traversing through 84 lakh Yoni-s i.e. manifests of Jivatma-s, finally embodied as human being. Life in the manifest of human beings extends infinite opportunities of creation, Sadhana  and attainment of Moksa. Scores of Sastra-s with four Veda-s at the core thereof, philosophies and Darsana-s, scores of skills and knowledge derived thereof, various sects and Sadhana-s for self-consecration, eventual emancipation are relevant possessions available and potentials attainable. Four orders of life-long endeavours prescribed are Dharma, Artha, Kama  and Moksa  for all encompassing four Asrama-s i.e. stages of one’s life, Brahmacarya, Grihastha, Vanaprastha  and Sannyasa. Four orders of Rna-s i.e. obligatory debts that must be retired in one’s lifetime, are DevaRna  i.e. debts incurred from deities, RsiRna  i.e. debts rendered by Seers, PitrRna  i.e. of ancestors and finally, ManusyaRna  i.e. from kins, society etc. DevaRna  meant for members of Grihastha  and Vanaprastha Asrama-s, is retired by solemnising Yajna-s dedicated to deities. RsiRna, meant for members of BrahmacaryaAsrama, is retired by studying Veda-s and pursuit of Brahmacarya. PitrRna, meant for members of Grihastha Asrama, is retired by offering Tarpana, Sraddha, PindaDana  etc. Finally ManusyaRna, meant for all, is retired through Dana  and social service.

Within these confines as delineated above, any practitioner of Sanatana Dharma  may attain any peak of excellence or divinity hitherto impossible to attain otherwise. Sanatana Dharma  is neither monotheistic nor polytheistic. Not even atheistic. It is indeed, Infinite-theistic that allows anyone to become Param Brahmatma  oneself through ardent practices and pursuits. That indeed is the monopoly of Sanatana Dharma. Last milestone does not exist at all, never existed in Sanatana Dharma  for any ascetic Seeker or Seer.

THE LAST MUGHAL JAWAHARLAL NEHRU SOWED SEEDS OF POLICY-PARALYSIS IN 1942 ITSELF

JL Nehru declined to support Britain in WW-II, consequently British-occupiers turned hostile towards Congress and leaned on Muslim League for support. Nehru’s myopic refusal sowed seeds of vested interest of Britain in creation of Pakistan as Britain was convinced, they could later extract favours like military bases in Pakistan while Nehru being a diehard Communist, would not ally Congress with them and other western countries in their cold-war with USSR. Even MK Gandhi didn’t have guts and grit to prevail upon Nehru, self-proclaimed ‘Internationalist / foreign affairs expert’. If somehow Nehru had garnered British confidence in foreign policy issues, there might not have been any partition at all, nor the festering wound of J&K. Nehru under his so-called political mentor MK Gandhi was as much juvenile in dealing with outgoing British-occupiers as was Rajiv Gandhi in dealing with LTTE and Sri Lankans as Prime Minister decades later. Sardar Patel would have handled them tactfully by fooling them of his intentions while extracting the pound of flesh in interest of the nation successfully. ‘Great Freedom-Fighters’ of Congress were too frail to overpower their own arrogance, inconsistency, snobbery and narcissism. In fact British were toying with the idea of appealing to all Kingdoms to declare their own independence and some of them were quite ambivalent on the issue. If Sardar Patel had not intervened wisely, Bharata would have been irretrievably fragmented enabling Britain to negotiate for military bases in larger Kingdoms.

Bharata-Pakistan Partition-1947 was one of the most tragic events in recorded history of humanity. Millions of Hindu-s were brutalised, slaughtered, displaced and properties lost worth hundreds of crores. No methodical exercise was carried out to find out exact numbers as it was not in interest of either Nehru, Jinnah or even British-occupiers instrumental to the monumental tragedy. Winston Churchill, a British politician imbued with anti-Hindu poison, brazenly held Mountbatten responsible for the monumental tragedy after plundering the nation for almost two centuries. Managing human displacement on such a monumental scale demanded a very high order of maturity, sagacity, patience, arbitration skill, vision and what not. Those diminutive liliputians had absolutely no idea what human displacement meant, dire implications and long-term consequences. Even terrible blood-bath of ‘Direct Action Day’ in August 1946 of Calcutta, Noakhali in East Bengal, Moplah riots of Malabar etc. failed to stimulate them into introspection and advance preparations. What they did was, they just pushed millions of people into raging Fires Of Hell just because two of them were desperate to be sworn in to office come what may. There was no sense of planning, security of life and property of natives under displacement, compensation, rehabilitation at all. The crime of mis-handling massive displacement itself is enough for JL Nehru to be awarded severest punishment of all. But the man died in office striving to earn Nobel Peace Prize for himself and go down in history consecrated, deified and immortalised. British-occupiers led by Mountbatten were in a desperate hurry to exit the country and they were under no obligation to secure life and property of millions under displacement as well as there was no basis to expect that from them when so many of our own people in Congress have been persistently back-stabbing the nation at every vulnerable moment. If Hindu-s and Muslims were busy killing and brutalising among themselves, so be that for British-occupiers who didn’t care a damn about it !! In fact it went to their credit and to the prophecy of Winston Churchill who had so predicted about Congressmen !! Outburst of Sardar Patel to Mounbatten was indeed so bitter, “The British had little difficulty when it was a question of putting down Indian freedom movements.”

Dr. Ambedkar had advised Congress and Muslim League to sign a comprehensive agreement for a well-conceived protocol for smooth transfer of population and assets in his book ‘Pakistan Or The Partition Of India’. In case they were unable to formulate that, partition could have been postponed as there was hardly any tearing hurry to divide the nation. There have been similar displacements in history too viz. exchange of some 3 million Bulgarians and Turks under Turko-Bulgarian Convention-1913 and Treaty Of Lausanne-1923 for exchange of some 1.6 million Muslims and Christians between Turkey and Greece. Muslim League had in fact demanded exchange of population and no less that eight leaders of Muslim League, Jinnah, Feroze Khan Noon, Nawab of Mamdot, Pir Ilahi Bux, Mohammad Ismail, Chundrigar, Shaukat Hayat Khan and Ghaznafar Ali Khan demanded an exchange of population.” Dawn quoted Khan Iftikhar Hussein of Mamdot on Dec. 3, 1946 that exchange of population offered a ‘very practical solution’ for ‘problems of Muslims’. Pir Ilahi Bux of Sindh also supported the demand for ‘safety of minorities’ as it may end all communal disturbances. So also proclaimed earlier by Pakistani Prime Minister Feroze Khan in 1946 to the effect that murder-orgies of Changez Khan and Halaqu Khan would be re-enacted if population exchange was resisted by non-Muslims !! Exchange of population was very much an integral component of the partition plan. By not allowing Muslims to emigrate to Dar-ul-Islam of Pakistan, Gandhi-Nehru duo wrought upon non-Muslims on both sides of the border enormous brutalities, agonies, miseries and still continuing.

For the Partition-1947 to be so reckless as being denied even a semblance of planning and vision while indescribable orgies that followed, how can veterans of partition be absolved of the terrible felony ? Did we ever demand compensation from the malevolent British Crown for being largely responsible for the genocide ? Answer to all these is just one word ‘No’, loud and dazzling as a lightening thunder. Had trains carrying people under displacement been well-guarded by Army, Para-military forces and politically supported by ‘Congress freedom-fighters’, not a single human life would have been lost, not a single woman would have been brutalised and not a single property burnt to ashes. As Mountbatten had decided to withdraw British troops in a huff, ‘great freedom-fighters’ of Congress now in power, did nothing, absolutely nothing to expand forces, recruit armed volunteers or even mobilise public opinion. INA soldiers were readily available but could not be recruited owing to Nehru’s pathological hatred for anything even remotely connected with Netaji Bose. Nation was left high and dry screaming in agony, languishing in miseries while Prime Minister Nehru merely paid a ‘courtesy’ visit to the border after the mayhem was almost over and remarked like Pope on the eve of Xmas Day peeping out of the ‘Window Of Enlightenment’, “I think people have gone mad.” !! Who had in reality gone mad, defenceless people being brutally killed or Mounbatten’s successor Nehru who had declared like lunatic, “I would rather have every village in India go up in flames than keep a single British soldier in India a moment longer than necessary.” But then, not a single village ever burned whenever he blissfully consorted Edwina Mountbatten !!

It was in 1915 that British-occupiers ‘transferred’ MK Gandhi to Bharata from South Africa to carry out the ‘historic drama’ of freedom struggle by leading Indian National Congress founded by again, a Britisher AO Hume only to confound and ruin the freedom struggle. While leading the ‘freedom-struggle’ or the sham of it for 32 long years from 1915 to 1947, great leaders of Congress (as they are claimed to be) never cared to cerebrate over all vital national issues, action plans, goals to be realised and expected pitfalls etc. to be pursued post-independence. They did not even prepare a draft of Constitution to be circulated as widely as possible, invite suggestions from people at large. Drafting comprehensive policy papers on foreign policy, economy, agriculture, education, culture, language, law and justice, defence policy, internal security etc. were issues of complete ‘policy-paralysis’ for those great Congress-souls. They did not care to study how Americans had become prosperous and how to customise their success story for our nation. In British-Indian Jails, they had plenty of time to contemplate, discuss and thrash out all those details. Top Congress leaders Patel, Nehru, Azad, Kripalani, Pant, Sitaramayya, Narendra Deva, Asaf Ali, Shanka Deo, PC Ghosh, HK Mehtab and Mahmud were incarcerated in Ahmednagar Jail for three years i.e. 1942-45 as VIP prisoners. They were completely exempted from hard labour, torture and provided with study material too. Even in that long undisturbed period, no vision was spelt out for post-Independence Bharata. Worst culprit of this monumental ‘didn’t care a damn’ attitude was MK Gandhi who wasted these years in his ludicrous obsessions like naturopathy, enema, fasting and all sorts of charade inconsequential for the country so vulnerable. Literature that he produced, venerated even today in the name of Gandhi-Darshan was shallow as that hardly contributed to burning issues of the day snarling before the nation. Such a cerebrum-storming was not possible for him outside Jail as that was the time he was busy in spinning, fasting unto death etc. Even Nehru’s literature did not spell out his vision in preparation of impending independence of the nation. They had sown seeds of Policy-paralysis that became national sobriquet during 2004-14 under a Government illegitimately run by the Italian Antonio Maino through unconstitutional National Advisory Council. Policy-paralysis has been thus, institutionalised by so-called great freedom-fighters of Indian National Congress themselves decades ago. Enough number of talented people were available and industrialists like Tata, Birla eager to finance such studies. However, 32 precious years were frittered away to ultimately find Nehru begging before Viceroy Mountbatten to take-over as Governor General Mountbatten as Nehru just didn’t know how to go about corridors of power but knew very well how to hang around Edwina Mountbatten !! It was only after independence was attained that Constitution Drafting Committee was constituted and Constitution could be adopted in 1950, three years after freedom was attained.

Ghastly consequences of lack of accurate vision, policies and action-plan have been for all to observe. On all fronts, on all parameters of governance Nehru had been a calamitous disaster. I am unaware whether he succeeded in discovering correct India in his ‘Discovery Of India’. If he had seriously attempted discovering Bharata instead of India, probably governance might have been better by a few brownie-points. His decisions, policies were so absurd, so ludicrous that he raised serious questions where exactly his loyalties lay. Budget after budget nation was struggling hard to remain in the lowest order of Human Development Index internationally. Absence of well-crafted policies allowed Nehru a free hand at his destruction spree. It was only Sardara Patel who could restrain him for a few years so long as he was alive. Author Nirad Chaudhuri assessed him so accurately, “…In the Indian nationalist movement there was not only a total absence of positive and constructive ideas, but even of thinking. These shortcomings were to have their disastrous consequence in 1947… The intellectual poverty of the nationalist movement gradually became intellectual bankruptcy, but nobody perceived that because the hatred of the British rule left no room for rational ideas… Over the whole period with which I am dealing [1921- 52] none of them [Gandhi, Nehru…] put forth a single idea about what was to follow British rule… What was even more astonishing, none of these leaders were qualified to put forward any positive idea because none of them had any worthwhile knowledge of Indian history, life, and culture…”

CONGRESS ‘FREEDOM-FIGHTERS’ USED TO BE SERVED CHAMPAGNE IN BRITISH-INDIAN JAILS !!

While so-called Gandhian freedom fighters of Congress were treated with velvet gloves in British-Indian Jails, non-Congress prisoners and revolutionaries were treated like cattle in slaughter houses, forced to wear same clothes for several days even in torrid summer, their kitchen infested with rats and roaches, denial of reading and writing material, whipped to hard manual labour etc. Whenever they protested, went on long spells of hunger-strike demanding equality with European prisoners and Gandhians, they were mercilessly tortured and flogged. Revolutionary Jatin Das martyred on Sept. 13, 1929 in Lahore Jail after 63-day hunger strike protesting against inhuman treatment. For senior Gandhians Jails were comfortable guest-houses, used to be provided all comforts and necessities in ‘British-Indian Jails’. In words of Rajmohan Gandhi, when senior Gandhians were arrested and lodged in Ahmednagar Jail during 1942-45, “On the day of their arrival, Kripalani recalls Azad showing ‘towering rage’: he threw out the Jailor who had brought ready-to-drink tea for them in an aluminium kettle along with loaves of bread on an aluminium plate and glasses for the tea. The Congress President ‘ordered’ the jailor to bring tea in a pot, milk in a jug and sugar in a bowl, plus cups, saucers and spoons. The jailor, an Indian, complied.” Maulana Azad wrote in his autobiography: “Dinner was served to us soon after on iron platters. We did not like them and I told the jailer that we were accustomed to eat from China plates. The jailer apologised and said that he could not supply us with a dinner set then but it would be obtained the next day. A convict from Poona had been brought to serve us as our cook. He could not prepare food according to our taste. He was soon changed and a better cook appointed.” Daily routine of those Gandhian satraps in Ahmadnagar Jail makes a fascinating reading – ‘Breakfast at 7 am, lunch at 1 pm, bridge from 1 pm to 3 pm, rest from 3 pm to 5 pm followed by tea (or reading/writing between lunch and tea), games from 6 pm to 7 pm, dinner from 7 pm to 8.30 pm followed by coffee, finally retiring for the night.’

MK Gandhi was ‘jailed’ in the grand Aga Khan Palace at Pune from 1942 to 1944. Nehru was provided newspapers, magazines, writing material and books in all Jails. ‘Glimpses of World History’ he authored in Naini Jail during 1930-35, ‘An Autobiography’ in Bareilly and Dehra Dun Jails, finally ‘Discovery of India’ in Ahmednagar Jail during 1942-45. During those spells of ‘imprisonment’, Gandhian ‘freedom-fighters’ were for all practical purposes, royal guests of the Royal British Crown. So described a non-Gandhian freedom-fighter Asaf Ali, “Nehru almost had a bungalow to himself in his so-called jail with curtains of his choicest colour—blue. He could do gardening at leisure and write his books. When his wife was sick, his sentence was suspended even without his asking for it !” The then UP Governor ‘Sir’ Harcourt Butler used to even send quality food and a champagne bottle to Motilal Nehru in his prison out of consideration for their association, so confessed by Motilal Nehru to The Statesman editor Arthur Moore and mentioned by MJ Akbar too in his book. Nehru himself mentioned it in his autobiography, “Personally, I have been very fortunate, and almost invariably, I have received courtesy from my own countrymen and English. Even my gaolers and the policemen, who have arrested me or escorted me as a prisoner from place to place, have been kind to me, and much of the bitterness of conflict and the sting of gaol life has been toned down because of this human touch…Even for Englishmen I was an individual and not merely one of the mass, and, I imagine, the fact that I had received my education in England, and especially my having been to an English public school, brought me nearer to them. Because of this, they could not help considering me as more or less civilized after their own pattern…”.

Quite ironically and so tragically, none of those Gandhian leaders did anything to ensure revolutionaries were treated humanely in British-Indian Jails. While they were enjoying champagne, delicious meals, tea / coffee in China crockeries during their imprisonment in British-Indian Jails, CS Azad / Bhagat Singh / Rajguru / Sukhdeva / Ram Prasad Bismil used to be lashed and whipped by the British-Indian Police with leather batons to bloodied wounds and starve for days together though they too had actively supported Non-Cooperation Agitation of 1922. It was only Lokmanya Tilak who did whatever he could for them to ameliorate their agony. Vinayak Savarkar and others were brutalised in Andamana Jail yet Gandhian ‘freedom-fighters’ could not spare even a single drop of their precious tears for them. They were shackled, fed on gruel infested with worms, hauled to run oil mills for hours together and flogged. Had those Gandhian ‘freedom-fighters’ been subjected to the same treatment even for day, they would have boot-licked British-thugs and begged for unconditional apology though it is yet another matter that today, their poodles and chihuahuas deride Vinayak Savarkar for apologising to British-occupiers !! They acted very smartly, rewards of which in the form of power and pelf not only they themselves thoroughly enjoyed for the rest of their lives but also their subsequent generations, shockingly till date.
